It’s Big Payback Time!
Community Care Fellowship will always be a place where those in need can find a hot meal, a warm shower and a compassionate welcome. We’re honored to be a safe place of respite to so many. We also want to be a source of transformation within our community. Particularly with our children and youth, we are striving to break the cycle of poverty that has trapped too many generations of too many families in our neighborhood.
In the afternoons during the school year, we host our Dare to Dream students. We pick up 10 pre-K students when school lets out at nearby Kirkpatrick Elementary. We bring them back to CCF, feed them a nutritious snack and then we work on shapes and colors, letters and numbers. We read to the children, play games and work on crafts. We provide a safe and inviting place to come to in the hours between the end of the school day and the end of the work day, where they can be under the watchful eye of staff and volunteers who care for them.
In the summer, our Academy for Success in Kindergarten (ASK) program builds on the efforts of Dare to Dream. It’s the “final push,” so to speak, to help the students prepare to enter kindergarten in the fall. In addition to the academic skills, we also spend time working on building the social skills – listening, following directions, and working together – that are expected of them once they enter the classroom.
You can support the ASK program on Wednesday, May 3, through the Big Payback, a 24-hour online giving event organized by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. We’ve set a bold goal of raising $5,000 to fully fund the ASK program for this summer. The money will be used to purchase curriculum, fund field trips and provide staffing.
