Local Volunteers Needed for New Food Retrieval Program

Local friends: we could use your help! CCF has recently partnered with Zero Percent for surplus food donations. ZP coordinates with area businesses and restaurants so that extra food is donated to nonprofits in need, instead of thrown away. Here’s how it works:

  1. A restaurant or business signs up with Zero Percent to participate in their food donation program.
  2. They let ZP know when they have food to donate
  3. ZP sends out a text to participating non-profits in the geographic area, letting them know what’s available and the time frame for picking it up.
  4. The nonprofit either texts back with a YES and picks up the food or a NO and the offer goes to the next non-profit on the list.

As you can imagine, this is a pretty time-sensitive operation – we have to be able to respond quickly. Because CCF has a small staff and we must have two people in the building during operating hours, we often have to pass on the donations since we can’t meet the pickup deadline.

This is where we need your help! If you live near CCF (East Nashville) and would be willing to help with food pickups, please let Bob Coleman, executive director, know. Please note that you would need transportation and text messaging capabilities.

Thanks for your support!
